Junior Section v Men's Club
The First Millicent "Juniors versus
Seniors" challenge was held on Sunday March 20th last and it turned out to be a
very successful day with a close finish.
The idea of the Challenge was put forward by the 2011 Junior Captain, Chris
Hobbs. Chris assembled a formidable team of 10 Juniors and they took on 10
Seniors in a series of fourball matchplays over 18 holes.

The first team of Chris Hobbs and
Harry Kelly had a comprehensive victory of 5&3 over Leonard Hobbs and Paul
Murtagh. But the Seniors got the next match as Brian Murtagh and Jim Murphy
(Senior Vice-Captain) beat Conor Martin and Matthew Murtagh.
The Seniors took the lead as Brendan
Martin and Joe Griffith beat Eoghan Martin and Grania Martin.
As the evening sun set at the end of s glorious Spring day, the final two
matches made their way to the 17th and 18th holes. The Juniors took the
standings to 2-2 as Andrew Murtagh and newcomer Stephen O'Brien beat Paul Hogan
(Captain) and Darren O'Brien.
And finally, the Juniors took the
overall match 2&1 as the young guns of Daniel Hahn and Kyle Hussey beat Clem
Hussey and Michael Hahn. The Challenge Trophy was presented by Senior Captain
Paul Hogan to Junior Captain Chris Hobbs at the end of a very successful
competition.
Junior Coordinator Paul Murtagh
hopes that this will be annual event and said that it is an ideal start to the
Golfing Year for both Juniors and Seniors alike. Given the strength of the golf
in the Juniors, the Seniors will have to put out a strong team in 2012 to win
back the trophy.
Many thanks to Captain Paul Hogan, Vice-Captain Jim Murphy and Niamh Killeen
for their support."
