Our Jimmy Bruen Team Did us Proud in Mullingar!
The Jimmy Bruen team under team Captain Dave Smyth became our most successful team (to-date) by reaching the final of the Mullingar Section. The team of 10 reached the semi-final on Sunday morning by qualifying in third place from Saturdays strokeplay. The Saturday team was Paul Mooney, Peter Ruddy, Aidan Kerin, JT Murphy, Neil Bradon, Ted O’Brien, Jason O’Loughlin, Conrad Cooper, Willie Doyle, and R Messenger.
A total score of 335, with counting scores of 82, 84, 84, 85 put us in joint second place with Knockanally GC, who secured second place by virtue of a better 3 card total. Tullamore GC secured top qualifying spot with 318, while Moate GC took the final spot with 338.The semi-final line up saw Tullamore GC beat Moate, while Millicent took on Knockanally GC. A slight hiccup occurred with a no-show from one of our team, leading to a forfeiture of the first match. This did not deter the rest of the team however, as they took the next three matches to record a brilliant win. The final match was called in with the score tied after 16 holes.
The final was played under perfect conditions in the afternoon and Tullamore GC were an example to all clubs with their organisation, their supporters, and their professionalism. A close match that saw two matches go to the final hole, and some very narrow defeats left Millicent beaten on a score of 1 – 4. This gave Tullamore GC a successive victory, as they repeated their triumph of last year. Millicent was represented in the final by Paul Mooney, Peter Ruddy, Aidan Kerin, JT Murphy, Neil Bradon, Ted O’Brien, Jason O’Loughlin, Conrad Cooper, Willie Doyle, and Tony Cully.
